Do You Really Need To Detox?

2016 is coming to an end. Now that we are approaching the end of the year, just reflect back, what was your resolution(s) again? Anything to do with weight loss? How about healthier body and fitness approach?

After a whole year of hectic work schedule, social events such as weddings, birthdays, farewells and other parties, and all the other dramas going around, that you do not realise what you are putting into your body or what you are NOT putting into your body.

So, here is the real question to ask yourself, “Do I really need a detox?”

The answer is, everyone needs a detox. Detox or detoxification is a process where we push out toxins from our body. This can be done through various method. Sometimes, you may need to see a physician or a Naturopath before you start out certain detox programme. Juice fasting, water fasting, taking laxatives or detox tea, undergoing colon cleansing or colon enema, or altering your food for a detox are just a few, safe ways to detox your body.

Now, the purpose of elimination is restore the vital health or the vital energy of the body, in order to sustain better. There is a saying, ‘you need to let bad things go in order for good things to come’. Well, toxins is bad and healthy body is good, agree?

Cleansing and detoxification is known as a way to avoid illness and has been practiced for longevity and healing purposes, long, long time ago. It is believed that when one’s body is full of toxins or waste materials, the body is very susceptible for disease invasion. The body will experience pains and aches, sluggishness and fatigue, headaches or migraines, skin problems, coughs and congestion and many more which are related to toxins build-ups.

The key is to provide the right ingredients for optimal function daily, rather than opting for a quick-fix detox. As we accumulate toxins throughout the year without even realising it, why not let it all out one shot? Of course, there is a guide to it. Anyway, there is no one-off detox regimen that can “erase” the effects of weeks’ worth of excess and years of sluggish lifestyle habits. You need efforts to work with your body to slowly move things out efficiently. Your body has many internal processes to eliminate toxins including the gastrointestinal tract, liver and gall bladder, kidneys, lymphatic system, and even your lungs and skin are detoxifying your body every day, around the clock.

“If all of these organs are doing the detoxification, then why do I need a detox?”

How well your body can deal with toxins relies on your age and overall health. The younger and healthier you are, the more effectively toxins are eliminated, thus minimizing the damage they can cause. But even for the young and healthy, there are no guarantees as sometimes toxins may build-up without we knowing it because of our increasingly contaminated environment.

The rate of toxins is going into our body is somehow faster than the rate of it is being expelled out. As toxic stress increases, our systems are unable to compete, therefore, instead of being flushed out of our system, the toxins end up lodged within our internal organs, skin, body cells, and especially fats in our body. Since you have been bombarding your body with many kinds of food, lack of sleep and excessive stress, don’t you think you need help to clear things of, to release the burden? It is like having an assistant for a final project to ease the workload. These organs also need a break. You don’t want these organ to suddenly go ‘deactivate’ or ‘malfunction’ or even ‘breakdown’. Even your car needs servicing after certain miles it has gone, so does your body. Your health is the most valuable gift, therefore, take good care of it, especially your internal organ. You cannot see what is going on inside there, but there might be some ‘alarms’ going around. Your body will be able to tell you if there is already some ‘traffic jam’ going on. As we are the guardians of our own health and wellbeing, it is up to us to treasure this and take responsibility for it.

What will I gain from a detox?

Cleansing the Whole Body

Undergoing a detox programme helps to get rid of excess waste in the body. Colon enema helps to remove most waste which are trapped at the lining of the colon. If this waste are not being removed, it will be reabsorbed back into our body, rather than exiting as planned. You might want to stick to fruits and vegetables after cleansing your colon to keep things moving.

Feeling lighter and more energetic

After a detox especially colon cleansing or colon enema and fasting with water or juices, you will feel a lot more lighter as you get rid of the toxins which are pulling you down. Somehow, your blood is running smoother and circulating better as it is now clear from toxins. While you are detoxing, you will feel more energetic too. This is because you are stopping the inflow of the things that caused you to need a detox in the first place. When your body systems are overloaded with toxic compounds and chemical substances, you will feel lethargic and sluggish. Eliminating these waste materials, and built-up contaminants enables your body to properly digest the food you eat and absorb the nutrients, thus boosting your energy in a way.

Increase Vitality

After a detox, your body will be able to repair any damages inside your body and help restore your health. You will also feel that most of your complaints reduce or almost gone. But, if you do not keep this “cleaned-up body”, you are going to have the complaints “visiting” you again.

Enhancing Immune System

When you detox the body, you free up your organs to function in the optimum level. With lower toxicity levels, the body’s disease fighting capability are going to be strengthened, allowing it to deal better with new toxins entering the body.

Better complexion and promote skin health

Skin always reflects our internal health. If internally is clean and free from waste, our skin will be brighter and more radiant. You can expect clearer, smoother skin at the end of your detox plan. Detoxing can also help with acne, although the condition may worsen before it gets better as the toxins are released. This is called healing crisis and you do not need to be worry about it.

Improving Body Odour and Bad Breath

When there is toxin overload in our body, these toxins will try to escape through the skin pores, causing body odour. One contributor to bad breath is a backed up colon. When you are able to clear it out and get your digestive system functioning well again, you may find that your breath improves. Keep in mind that this situation may worsen during a detox process as more toxins are release out from the system.

Other benefits of detox includes but not limited to, weight loss, better eye vision, more focus and better concentration, alertness and memory improved, better sleep quality, lowering blood cholesterol level and more stable blood pressure, and many more other benefits. It is best to consult a physician for proper evaluation on your condition before attempting any detox as some condition is not suitable to undergo a certain regime.
