Neuro-Hypnotherapy

'Listen' to Your Brainwave

Neuro-Hypnotherapy is based on EEG brainwave frequency monitoring and clinical hypnotherapy.

Neuro-Hypnotherapy is:

- SAFE & NON-INVASIVE

- NO SIDE EFFECTS

- BASED ON THE SCIENCE OF EEG BIOFEEDBACK & CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY

- EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE

Neuro-Hypnotherapy is based on EEG (electroencephalogram) brainwave frequency monitoring and clinical hypnotherapy. It is non-invasive, painless and safe with no side effects. All of our brain activities can be measured scientifically by utilizing an EEG biofeedback tool. EEG biofeedback technique focuses on helping a person train themselves to directly affect brain function. Although it sounds like science-fiction in nature, it is actually a reputable and scientifically-proven technique practiced by specially-trained psychotherapists. Recent research supports the view that hypnotic communication and suggestion effectively changes aspects of the person’s physiological and neurological functions.

During the neuro-hypnotherapy session, electrodes are applied to the individual’s scalp, which allow the patient and therapist to “listen in” on brainwave activity. The electrodes do not hurt and conduct no amount of electricity that one can feel. The person’s hair is not removed or shaven during the electrode placement. This is done in “real-time,” so the person sees exactly what is going on in their brain as they think certain thoughts, feel stressed, or feel relaxed. After treatment, people have learned how to train their brain naturally, without pharmaceutical medications.

While you may think of neuro-hypnotherapy as something you see only in the movies, it is actually used in real life to help people with depression, anxiety, mood related problem, pain and other health problems. It can also help people change their habits, such as quitting smoking or losing weight (using virtual gastric band). Neuro-hypnotherapy is becoming a more common part of treatment plans because it can not only help people manage illness, in some cases, it helps them recover from it.

While posthypnotic amnesia (memory loss) may occur, most people will remember everything that had occurred during the session. But when it does (in very rare cases though), the effect is generally limited and temporary.

Despite stories about people being hypnotized without their consent, neuro-hypnotherapy requires voluntary participation on the part of the patient.

While people often feel that their actions under neuro-hypnotherapy seem to occur without the influence of their will, a hypnotist cannot make you perform actions that are against your values or morals.

Neuro-hypnotherapy is not magic. It is a trance state, which has at times been misunderstood to the extent of being maligned. However, there is nothing supernatural about its practice despite what some “stage hypnotists” might have you believed. Neuro-hypnotherapy, therefore, should not be confused with stage hypnotism which at best is entertainment and at worst dangerous.

Success rates can be between 85% and 90%+ and it’s better than CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or other conventional techniques. According to the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis:

Home Study Self-Hypnosis: 2 – 5% success rate

Group Hypnosis Session: 2 – 5% success rate

Single Individual Session: 17 – 20% success rate

Three Individual Sessions: 45 – 50% success rate

Five or More Individual Sessions: 85 – 90% success rate

Dr Alfred A. Barrios conducted a longitudinal survey of the psychotherapeutic literature and discovered the following success rates for hypnotherapy versus therapeutic methods:

Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions

Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions

Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery after 6 sessions

The researchers also discovered that by customizing and individualizing the sessions, the effectiveness increases dramatically.

Comparison between traditional hypnotherapy and Neuro-hypnotherapy

Traditional Hypnotherapy

Neuro-hypnotherapy

Depths of Hypnosis – Uses physiological measures to quantify the depth of the hypnotic trance.

Assessment – Assesses client's personal history, appearance and behaviour, etc.

Approach- Traditionally available and widely used by all the Hypnotherapist

Result - Based on client or therapist’s observation which could be based on subjective feeling.

Strengths- Widely used for emotional and psychological disorders

Depths of Hypnosis – Based on EEG biofeedback tool, you can scientifically see yourself going into states of “Alpha," "Theta," and "Delta.” These three levels can be considered states or depths of Hypnosis.

Assessment – Combines both traditional hypnotherapy techniques and brainwave assessment to understand an individual better

Approach – New (combines scientific data with traditional approach) and not widely used by hypnotherapists

Result – Based on client or therapist’s observation plus neurofeedback brainwaves reading

Strengths – Can be applied for different conditions including learning disabilities such as autism, ADHD and many more
